For over 14 years, I have been volunteering in the Princeton Public Schools and our community. I am the proud product of a public-school education and proud mouther of three children (currently a freshman and senior at PHS and a freshman at Georgetown University) who all attended the Princeton Public Schools.
I consider very few things more important than a high-quality public education for ALL our children. I expect our district to have high expectations for each of our children as we seek to enable them to fulfill their potential and become engaged citizens in a global society. Our district is experiencing an exciting time with new faces and excellent new initiatives, and I hope to continue to be a part of serving it.
I am currently finishing my first term on the BOE where I co-chair the Personnel committee and serve on the Long-Range Planning and Operations committees. I have also served on the BOE Policy committee, as Treasurer and President of the PTO at Johnson Park Elementary, on the PTO Council, as Assistant Treasurer for the Friends of the Library, on the town’s Citizens Finance Advisory Committee (CFAC), and as Treasurer for Nassau Nursery School.
I am running for a second term because I believe experience matters to ensure the continued success of our district. As the only incumbent running for reelection, I have critical institutional knowledge and experience to help guide us through the significant challenges on the horizon.
Chief among those challenges is balancing our aging facilities against a backdrop of the rapidly increasing growth in town, leading to increased student enrollment. Early next year we will hold a special election where the town will vote on a critical referendum to address the district's capacity constraints. Whether or not the referendum passes, our schools will face redistricting. One scenario would be more immediate, while the passing of the referendum would allow for a more gradual redistricting, but both will require significant thoughtful consideration. My broad experience makes me well qualified to help lead us through this process.
I am a Columbia University School of Business graduate with an MBA and Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) charter holder with over a decade’s experience working in the financial services and asset management industries for firms such as GE Capital and Bank of America. My financial background is critical in facing the ever-present and significant challenge of managing the structural gap inherent in our budget due to the 2% cap. My experience allows me to balance critical, necessary investments in our schools while keeping tax increases to a minimum, which is always at the forefront of my decision-making. We are fortunate to have strong community partners such as Princeton University that support us with new income streams, and I will continue to advocate for the schools to receive PILOT monies from the town as growth continues.
I respectfully seek a second term on the Board of Education

As a very engaged elementary school parent and PTO Co-President, I've had the opportunity to connect with other parents and community members across Princeton to work together on issues facing our schools. I've realized through this experience that I have valuable business and collaboration skills that can make a meaningful impact, for the benefit of students, staff, and taxpayers. If elected to the Board of Education, I would:
I’ve served in many volunteer roles since my son started at Community Park School, including class parent, chair of the annual school-wide STEAM Day event, for which I built connections with numerous individuals and organizations throughout the Princeton area to present STEAM topics to students. Most recently, I have been serving as PTO Co-President.
Additionally, I stay actively informed about the management of Princeton Public Schools by attending regular Board of Education meetings, BOE committee meetings, and Parent Teacher Organization Council (PTOC) meetings.
Last school year, when issues arose with a new After Care provider, I was one of two parents nominated to represent CP on a District-wide Advisory Team. We served as the liaisons between our school's parents who used the After Care program and the District. We interviewed the two other providers that were runners-up in the original request for proposals and recommended the current provider, who has since had a successful year and will be in place again for the 2024-2025 school year.
One of the more gratifying experiences I’ve had in working with PPS is helping to bring together all four elementary school PTO Co-Presidents to communicate and collaborate. We were able to share ideas and insights among the schools, and find common purpose
Bio / About Chris
Chris was born and raised in Southern New Jersey alongside his two older brothers. His Dad, who left school after the 9th grade to work at his grandparents' deli, met his Mom, and together they started a family business. Chris is proud to have been the first person in his family to attend college. Chris pursued and completed a degree in Finance. Driven by a passion for helping people, Chris has dedicated himself to leveraging his education to make a meaningful impact in Princeton.
Growing up, Chris witnessed firsthand the dedication and perseverance of his parents, both at home and in their business. This instilled in Chris a strong work ethic and a deep appreciation for the value of education. These values have carried forward into Chris' own family life. Chris and his husband, Eric, moved to Princeton to provide their son with access to high-quality education and a vibrant, diverse community.
Chris attended Villanova University, and upon graduation, moved to Boston to begin his career in the financial services industry at a large custodian bank. Starting in Operations within the bank's Prime Brokerage Division, Chris worked hard to advance to the International Equities Sales Trading Desk. Chris' career trajectory took him to a global management consulting firm, where he led strategy development and execution, and process improvement engagements for financial services clients. Chris is now the 2nd generation owner of the family business. Chris has played a significant role in the growth and development of the family’s business for the past 20 years. Chris obtained his MBA in 2012 from Rutgers while working full-time. Chris is also Lean Sig Sigma Certified.

I've realized through this experience that I have valuable business and collaboration skills that can make a meaningful impact, for the benefit of students, staff, and taxpayers. If elected to the Board of Education, I would:
- Recognize the critical importance of making data-driven decisions to achieve operational excellence and ensure the data the District relies on is accurate, complete, and consistent.
- Leverage optimization techniques, drawing on my supply chain background, to ensure efficient operations and budget management. For example, leveraging software and network routing techniques to optimize bus transportation routes that could result in cost savings.
- Establish a continuous cycle of communication, progress monitoring, and status updates between District and outsourced 3rd party product- and service- providers, ensuring that expectations are mutually understood and consistently met. This includes progress reporting, feedback loops and escalation protocols.
- Prioritize community and culture-building within the District, fostering and maintaining strong relationships, so that all students have excellent achievement opportunities.
- Create new ways to engage with the entire Princeton community and increase visibility for Princeton Public Schools' successes.

Erica Snyder is running for Board of Education to bring more experience from an educator's point of view. She has worked with a wide variety of public institutions and that has allowed her to see the best in education along with innovative solutions to some of the current challenges facing Princeton today including:
Erica began her career as a high school teacher on the south side of Chicago and east side of Charlotte, NC. She then worked to support teachers and teacher leaders in more than 12 districts nationally as an instructional coach, with a focus on project-based learning, competency learning and standards based learning. Her education includes a Master's in Instructional Technology and an additional certificate in online learning. She currently works as the Director of Cherry Hill Nursery School in Princeton and also owns her own healing arts business. She is a co-president of the Community Park PTO where two of her three children attend, with the oldest heading to middle school.
- The growth of the district and space concerns
- The need for a comprehensive superintendent with a clear vision for the district
- The educational gaps that are showing for our low-income, special education, and brown and black students
- The lack of transparency and miscommunication about the district to the community

About Me and Why I am running
My name is Shenwei Zhao. I have been a frequent participant in meetings regarding local and school issues since I moved to Princeton in 2016. Prior to moving into town, our family lived in Montgomery for nine years. My wife is a professor, and I am an IT engineer and a business owner. Our 12-year-old is in 7th grade and is very much looking forward going to Princeton High School (PHS) in 2026.
Our story is similar to many others who have immigrated to the United States and to this community in particular. Both my wife and I arrived with two suitcases in the early 2000s as International Students on F1 visa. We could not afford tuition and living expenses and had to rely on scholarships with minimal stipends to complete our degrees. Princeton was our dream town when we were graduate students. Some 20 years later, we are very thankful to call it our home.
I am grateful for the opportunities that this country and community have offered me and my family. We would very much appreciate an opportunity to give back to the community through public service.
Specific Things I would like help to improve
Many families move to Princeton because of its excellent public schools. They would like their children to attend well-regarded schools that are reliable, high-quality, smoothly operated, and well-maintained. Parents work very hard to live in this expensive town and the last thing they want to see is the schools creating unnecessary distractions. Schools with strong reputations for academics and openness and with goals to constantly improve themselves will keep the town attractive and valuable to present and future residents, with or without children in the school system.
In recent years, many acquaintances in this town whose children have already graduated from PPS have expressed to me their concerns that the district's golden era has passed. This is particularly concerning as my child is still progressing through our public schools.
Our children's futures are too precious to let such concerns stand unchallenged. The quality of our schools should be upheld now just as it was for those who went through the system before them. We, as a community, need to work together to restore excellence and elevate PPS to new heights, build it even better than before.
My involvement in PPS related issues in recent years
● For hiring a well qualified superintendent through open process, as much as allowed by law and regulations
● For giving all students resources and opportunities to do better
● For keeping the high standard in education
● For teaching materials to be educational, historically accurate, and age appropriate
● Listen to parents: Taking input from parents before major decisions

Specific Things I would like help to improve
- Allocate appropriate resources and support to raise the level of achievement among all students. The town has unique resources and talents the district can access, and all students, whether in need or already excelling, should benefit from them.
- Create a healthy and rewarding environment in recruiting and retaining good teachers and school administrators during the teacher shortage.
- Improve mental health for every student and faculty member by identifying and hopefully limiting negative or even toxic school environments.
- Help schools to become bridges that bring communities together. Goal

- 2022: PPS Strategic Planning Core planning group participants (invited through the community outreach efforts by BoE members and Dr. Kelley). For equal access to educational resources
- 2023: Math Curriculum discussions: For maintaining high educational standards. Participated meeting at Valley Road with BoE members and PPS administrators
- 2023: Abrupt firing of PHS principal: For overall stability of the schools
- 2024: Intersectionality curriculum at PMS: For age appropriate teaching materials, for bringing next generation together, instead of dividing people
